MONOPOLIzED INC.'s Project MR2

The Exhaust Page

I figured that with all of the extra weight I have added to the car that i might need to help her out a little in the get-up-and-go area. So what a better time to run across a GB for a header for the N/A MR2; It’s a new header design that has not been dynode so I cant give you any hard numbers. But I can say that the butt dyno and the dash mounted G-Tech agree on the increase of power. Since I was going in to pull the header off it was an ideal time to upgrade the rest of the system as well. (Not like there’s a lot to it) So I went in the never-ending search for a N/A exhaust. I talked with Kblake from KO Racing to see where the progresses of the new N/A exhaust was, again he let me know that it had not moved to far due to the amount of work they had on the turbo products so sadly I was not able to get the exhaust that I wanted due to time restrictions. But I did get in touch with Burien Toyota that sold me a lovely GReddy SP. Even though its way too heavy imo it still is a pretty good exhaust.

Here are some photos of the install:

I got alot in the mail today. The UPS man left me his cell number beacuse i was taking up half his truck and he wanted to get it off. LOL But i got the muffler header adn b-pipe 6 tires an a/c compressor for the girlfriends car my shop manuels and some other misc. stuff i cant think of. Well here goes the install.

There is the new complete exhaust system. Man this stuff is pretty when its new.

Here is a little comparison shot on my 255/35 R18 that i think might be a little too wide.

The header and B-Pipe naturally.

This is just a preperation picture it really helped to get the car high in the air. I had heard horror stories about ahving to cut things up to get them off but i couldnt do that  I might need it to pass inspection next year.

Here are a few comparrison photos of the stock vrs. the aftermarket parts.

The headers: man I never new how masive the old header and cat were.

The whole shabang side by side.

I must say Toyota did something right; I only had to cut two bolts off this exhaust and i was able to do so with out damaging the real equiptment. This way I will be able to put it all back on if they decide to check for it next year come inspection time.

The installed product:

Putting everythin back together was almost as easy as taking it all off. I had a little problem with the O2 sensor bolts not wanting to fit or line up bit a smaller set of bolts fixed that easly. After all was said and done i got to spin her arround in the parking lot and had to make some adjustments to the B-Pipe beacuse it was vibrating on my ST swaybar at about 3K, a little tug here a little push here and a nice SMACK with Brutis (BIG hammer) did the trick.

When all was in order it took me about three or four days to decide if I liked the sound or not. At first i hated it! It sounded like the rest of the rice that rolled arround town with a $35 buzz can welded on to their 1.5" exhaust pipe so this did not make ne happy. Paying almost $600 for the muffler alone and being told by many that it had a great aggressive tone to it i just was not happy. Thena friend suggested that I ride behind the car while he drives it, so i can here what it really sounds like. Ok, sure, why not; well after that i was happy again under a load and all throught the RPM range she sounded sweet. So i am now verry happy with my purchase and think it will be staying on for a while. Atleast untill KO brings their N/A exhaust out!
